For years, hundreds of Colombians and foreigners have visited this city in December to make the famous "Alumbrados de Medellin" (Medellin's street lights), one of the great attractions of the city. Christmas lighting o Tour of Lights around the city
History of Medellin's Lighting Systems
It has been about 55 years since EPM was consolidated as an institution, giving birth to the wonderful Christmas lights of Medellin, where thousands of people were filled with light and color as they walked through the city at night.
During the Christmas season, part of the city was timidly decorated with special lamps, thanks to the material contributions of the private enterprise, the authorities and even the press. The inhabitants of the Bella Villa "came down" to watch the official lighting at six o'clock in the evening and to walk again and again along La Playa Avenue, which has always been the backbone of the Christmas decorations.

But it was in 1967 when EPM assumed the realization of "the illuminations", as they are popularly known, and with them its design, construction and assembly and, of course, its costs. It is the most beautiful and traditional gift given to the city, the region and the country, representing one of the major tourist attractions for its inhabitants and visitors during the end of the year season.
Today, the Alumbrado is a symbol for Medellín in the world. Hundreds of people work for many months so that thousands of visitors can enjoy it in strategic points of the capital of Antioquia. A route full of magic and color that makes people vibrate and dream.
By 2022, according to the municipal administration and Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), Medellín's lighting will be inspired by the Encanto movieThe Walt Disney Animation Studios film, which highlights the Colombian culture and transmitted the magic of our country to the whole world.

The main places that are toured in these Christmas lights are: The Parque del Rio which is one of the central spaces of the lighting which is transformed every Christmas, The North Park, La Playa Avenue where the lights are located between the traffic circle of the Pablo Tobon Uribe Theater and Paseo Junin at the corner of the Coltejer Building and finally the Envigado Park where large Christmas decorations are also centered.
For the year 2022, this lighting will be lit on December 7 as a December tradition for the entire city and the country.
