Antioquia Heritage Towns: a tour with a paisa soul
What are the heritage towns of Antioquia?
The Antioquia Heritage Towns are an exceptional legacy of the paisa culture in our country, 17 towns are part of the Network of Heritage Towns with traditional architectural riches but 3 are part of Antioquia, these are ideal destinations to live experiences and have an unforgettable trip, they are places that captivate with their essence and that between doors hide thousands of tattooed stories, with cobbled streets, squares with cathedrals and great architecture, flowers and ferns that adorn the facades of the houses. The main idea is to show the wonders that each town has and the good things that are in each of them. To be part of this network, the population must ensure that in their streets occurred important historical events for the memory and history of the country. Likewise, they must have been declared Asset of National Cultural Interest by the Ministry of CultureThe idea is to show the ancestral, historical and memorable aspects of the country, but there are two that we want you to include in your list of upcoming destinations to visit.
It is located an hour and a half from Medellin where the whole process of colonization of Antioquia began and is considered the cradle of the Paisa culture and the mother of the department of Antioquia. The tour of the historic center begins at the Central Plaza and continues along the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, whose construction dates back to the 19th century. As you walk through the cobblestone streets of this town, you will find the house of the Gomez Martinez family, which is easily distinguished because it is a giant mansion with walls made of stone, brick and real mixture. On every corner you will also find commemorative plaques of heroes and exemplary citizens, representing the interest in the history of this place.
