Tatacoa Desert
The Tatacoa Desert is the second largest arid zone in the country; on the eastern bank of the Magdalena River, this desert extends through the center of the department and is an ideal place to encounter nature.Its clear skies, full of stars, make it a magnificent astronomical observatory. You can camp in the indicated areas, as well as enjoy other types of lodging.It has two trails: Cuzco and Lo Hoyos; it has cliffs and eroded ravines of ocher and grayish colors, formed by the scarce rain and winds.The activities of the visitors vary according to their interests: they can walk ecological trails, ride ATVs, bicycles or swim in natural pools.In its 330 Km2 the climate is semi-arid, the temperature can reach almost 40 °C during the day and its scarce fauna and flora have adapted to the extreme atmospheric conditions.
